Guthrie Family Cleared As Suspects In Missing Mom Case; Sheriff Calls Out ‘Cruel’ Speculation

“To be clear…the Guthrie family — to include all siblings and spouses — has been cleared as possible suspects in this case,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said in a statement released Monday, Feb. 16. “The family has been nothing but cooperative and gracious and are victims in this case.

“To suggest otherwise is not only wrong, it is cruel. The Guthrie family are victims plain and simple…please, I’m begging you the media to honor your profession and report with some sense of compassion and professionalism.”

Nanos also criticized media speculation and those casting unwarranted suspicion on the family.

The announcement comes as investigators focus on new evidence, including DNA from an unknown male found on a glove recovered two miles from Guthrie’s Tucson-area home. The glove matches those worn by a masked suspect seen in surveillance footage.

The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10, with an average build. He was wearing a black mask, gloves, dark clothing, and sneakers, and carrying a black 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker Pack backpack. The FBI believes he was armed with a small semiautomatic pistol.

Nancy Guthrie was reported missing on Sunday, Feb. 1, after failing to arrive at church. The family has been actively cooperating with authorities and making public appeals for her safe return.

The investigation remains ongoing, with the FBI offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery.
